Forrest Gump Hill

Just 15 minutes away from Goulding’s resort is the landmark that provided the backdrop for the end of Forrest Gump’s legendary cross country run. Forrest Gump Hill is just outside of Monument Valley in a town named Mexican Hat. Right along US-163, you’ll see a turn off area with a 4 ft wide sign that says “Forrest Gump Hill”. This shot of highway with beautiful sprawling mountains in the background is absolutely jaw-dropping and a perfect photo opportunity even if you weren’t a huge fan of the movie.

Wildcat Trail is the only self-guided tour available in Monument Valley and is well worth the visit. The path takes you through Mitten Buttes and Merrick Buttes on its 3.2-mile stretch and at one point you’ll be surrounded by three towering buttes. You may recognize much of this area from Hollywood cinema as many movies have used the world-famous Monument Valley as a visually stunning backdrop.
